Here’s a classic recipe for Old Time Oven Peach Cobbler, which is perfect for a nostalgic dessert!
Ingredients:
- 6-8 fresh peaches, peeled and sliced (or 1 large can of peaches in syrup, drained)
- 1 cup sugar (for the peaches)
- 1/2 cup butter (1 stick), melted
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1 cup sugar (for the batter)
- 1 tablespoon baking powder
- Pinch of salt
- 1 cup milk
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- Ground cinnamon (optional, for sprinkling on top)
Instructions:
- Preheat the oven: to 350°F (175°C).
- Prepare the peaches: If using fresh peaches, place them in a pot with 1 cup of sugar and a little water, simmering for about 10 minutes until soft. If using canned peaches, you can skip this step but make sure to drain them well.
- Melt the butter: Pour the melted butter into a 9×13-inch baking dish.
- Make the batter: In a mixing bowl, whisk together flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt. Add the milk and vanilla extract, stirring until smooth.
- Assemble the cobbler: Pour the batter evenly over the melted butter in the baking dish. Don’t stir! Spoon the peaches (and some of the juice if you want a juicier cobbler) evenly on top of the batter. Again, don’t stir! The batter will rise around the peaches as it bakes.
- Add cinnamon (optional): Sprinkle ground cinnamon on top of the peaches for extra flavor.
- Bake: Place the cobbler in the preheated oven and bake for 35-45 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and bubbly.
- Cool and serve: Allow the cobbler to cool slightly. Serve warm, ideally with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or a dollop of whipped cream.
