Here’s a tasty recipe for Crispy Fried Mushrooms—a perfect appetizer or snack!
Ingredients:
- 8 oz (225 g) button mushrooms, cleaned and stems trimmed
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1 cup bread crumbs (panko works great for extra crispiness)
- 1 cup milk (or buttermilk for more flavor)
- 2 large eggs
- 1 tsp garlic powder
- 1 tsp onion powder
- ½ tsp smoked paprika
- Salt and pepper to taste
- Oil, for frying (vegetable or canola oil)
Instructions:
- Prep the Coating Stations
- In one shallow bowl, mix flour with garlic powder, onion powder, smoked paprika, salt, and pepper.
- In a second bowl, whisk together the eggs and milk.
- In a third bowl, place the bread crumbs.
- Coat the Mushrooms
- Dip each mushroom in the flour mixture, making sure it’s fully coated.
- Then, dip the mushroom into the egg mixture, allowing any excess to drip off.
- Finally, roll the mushroom in the bread crumbs, pressing gently to adhere the crumbs.
- Heat the Oil
- In a deep skillet or frying pan, heat about 1–2 inches of oil over medium-high heat until it reaches around 350°F (175°C). (You can test by dropping a small piece of bread in; it should sizzle and turn golden in about 15 seconds.)
- Fry the Mushrooms
- Carefully add a few mushrooms at a time to the hot oil. Fry for 3–5 minutes, turning occasionally, until they are golden brown and crispy.
- Remove with a slotted spoon and drain on a plate lined with paper towels.
- Serve
- Season with a little extra salt immediately after frying if desired. Serve hot with your favorite dipping sauce (ranch, garlic aioli, or marinara).
Tips:
- Use panko bread crumbs for an extra-crispy coating.
- Serve immediately to keep the mushrooms crispy, as they might soften if left out too long.
Enjoy your crispy fried mushrooms!
